Buffy's Lost Summer(The Concept)Watching the season finale of 'Buffy, The Vampire Slayer', I was intrigued by the idea that Buffy hops on a bus and heads on out of Sunnydale, with no explanation as to where she's going and what she hopes to accomplish. Immediately my imagination started supplying storylines and situations that you could never really do within the current Buffyverse, because for the most part, the show is chained to Sunnydale. Just imagine a Slayer, a superheroine, wandering around North America, helping people in need, saving the day. It would follow in the great tradition of such television shows as 'The Fugitive', 'The Incredible Hulk', and 'The A-Team'. Well, maybe just the first one. The mysterious stranger... This also gave me a chance to revisit places that I've always wanted to write about, places like Stephen King's Salem's Lot. The literary value of these stories are questionable, to be sure, but I just wanted to have some fun, and I hope these provide some entertainment for you. As I finish each story, I'll put them up on the Net, and I welcome any comments/criticisms/flames in my direction.
Carnival - While working at a carnival, Buffy discovers that it's not all fun and games. Her friends learn that Buffy is being considered a fugitive, and set off to find her. Return To The Lot - Hitchhiking through Maine, Buffy overhears the story of Salem's Lot and decides to investigate some recent disappearances. She finds the town empty, except for one resident that only comes out at night. Rumble City - A subway serial killer, a different breed of vampire, picks the wrong girl to victimize. We follow Buffy's friends as they try to track her and the serial killer down. Buffy Summers' Day Off - Finding herself on the run from the FBI, Buffy meets up with Whistler and spends the day hiding out in various Chicago landmarks. She also discovers that her friends are looking for her. Bible-Thumper - A despotic preacher, a couple of old friends, and a tornado all conspire to keep Buffy on her toes. Hostage - Buffy's caught in a hostage situation with a guy who thinks he sees demons everywhere. Come Together - Buffy learns of a way to rescue Angel from Hell; a Vegas nightclub frequented by the Underworld that has a direct connection. The catch is, to save Angel, she'll have to sacrifice another human soul. As she wrestles with this dilemma, the government agency and Buffy's friends converge on the nightclub.
None of this will follow what the show's creators have planned for Buffy's character and the show's plotline, but consider what I've done as an alternate universe. If one simple decision was made one way instead of another, 'Buffy's Lost Summer' is the result. Basically, each story will be done when it's done, and that's the best I can do. I hope you enjoy these stories, and if you have any comments, E-mail me. |
