The Kids

Rand al'Thor Ryan Philippe - 11.1%
Heath Ledger - 9.6%
Ewan McGregor - 8.1%

It would appear that enough people saw 'The Patriot' to think of voting for Heath Ledger, but it wasn't enough to defeat my previous cast list pick of Ryan Philippe. To those who voted for Ewan, the man is 29 years old - a little too old for Rand.
Wes Bentley

The off-center, broody performance in 'American Beauty' only hints at this actor's brilliance. He is certainly capable of taking Rand's character and making it his own; Bentley's intensity transfers well to Rand's deepening alienation and madness.
Wes Bentley
Mat Cauthon Freddie Prinze Jr. - 13.2%
Ben Affleck - 7.9%
Matt Damon - 7.9%

Again the previous cast list's pick wins out, while the two fallen angels from 'Dogma' share runner-up status. There was one vote for Tom Green, and I assure you, I gave him due consideration. ;)
Joshua Jackson

This was a tough call for me, as I was torn between Joshua and Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris on 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer'). Brendon's age was the deciding factor (he's 29), and I must admit a certain bias towards Canadian actors. :)
Joshua Jackson
Perrin Aybara Jerry O'Connell - 24.7%
Ben Affleck - 7.9%
Brendan Fraser - 6.9%

The success of these incumbent winners points out how difficult it is to fill these roles. There just aren't a lot of good, young, muscular actors these days. All three of these actors are closer to 30 than 20.
Chris Klein

He's played a lovable lug in three movies so far ('American Pie', 'Election', and 'Here On Earth'), so that qualifies him as the best candidate for Perrin Aybara. Klein is tall, well-built, and a pretty decent actor, at least for what he plays: the dumb guy who's not so dumb after all.
Chris Klein
Egwene al'Vere Natalie Portman - 34.6%
Anna Paquin - 12.6%
Katie Holmes - 9.4%

This came out of left field for me - I had no idea Natalie Portman had such support. Obviously 'Star Wars: Episode I' has a lot to do with this result, although Slashdot trolls are well-known for their Natalie obsessions, too.
Christina Ricci

I surprised myself with this pick. :) I was thinking about going with my previous pick (Anna Paquin), but after seeing 'Sleepy Hollow', Ricci made a strong impression on me, and I wanted to find something high-profile for her. She's got the backbone for this role, and her beauty is nicely off-center.
Christina Ricci
Elayne Trakand Sarah Michelle Gellar - 15.2%
Alicia Silverstone - 14.5%
Kirsten Dunst - 10.1%

In the battle of the blondes, Buffy staked out her claim for the top spot in a narrow victory over Alicia Silverstone, who has dropped right off the Hollywood radar in recent months. Fresh off her success in the cheerleader hit movie 'Bring It On', Dunst captures third place. No one else got more than 3% of the vote.
Leelee Sobieski

It was her performance as Joan of Arc that convinced me that Sobieski was the best choice. She looked believable as a leader, she's quite beautiful, and she's 5'9", which makes her a pretty good physical fit for Elayne. Everything I've read about her indicates a maturity and a self-awareness far beyond her 18 years.
Leelee Sobieski
Nynaeve al'Meara Kate Winslet - 16.8%
Neve Campbell - 15.8%
Ashley Judd - 5.0%

Every time I look at this, I think, this is the girl that ends up with Daniel Day-Lewis (Lan). Then my impulse is to find an actress that doesn't make this too much of a May-December romance. Kate Winslet is certainly one actress that projects a more mature age than she really is.
Kate Winslet

I almost went with Janeane Garofalo, who would have put a wonderful comedic spin on Nynaeve's tantrums, but in the end I decided to go with Winslet. I've liked her since her debut in 'Heavenly Creatures', and she's got plenty of range, which should allow her to overcome that one-dimensional braid-pulling thing.
Kate Winslet
Min Farshaw Winona Ryder - 30.9%
Rachael Leigh Cook - 8.1%
Fairuza Balk - 5.7%

I know Winona Ryder is the favourite of many for this role, but I want to give somebody else a shot. It's easy to think of Winona because she's got the short black hair and the tomboy image, but did you know she's a natural blonde? She's been coloring her hair since she was eleven.
Claire Forlani

Here we have another actress with short black hair, but far less well-known than Ryder. Forlani has that sly, mischievous look to her that reminds me of Min when she's tormenting Rand with her sexuality.
Claire Forlani
Aviendha Sarah Michelle Gellar - 8.9%
Bridgette Wilson - 7.8%
Milla Jovovich - 7.8%

You may be forgiven for thinking that Sarah Michelle Gellar's name seems to be popping up a lot on this page, because it's true. Still, it was a narrow victory for her this time, as over 40 different actresses received at least one vote, from Tyra Banks to Christina Aguilera. Okay, so those two aren't really actresses, but you get the idea.
Jessica Alba

She kicks ass and chews bubble gum on the hit Fox action series, 'Dark Angel', and she's got the kind of exotic, curvy beauty that make men temporarily insane. Could you blame Rand for having her and Claire Forlani and Leelee Sobieski on his mind all the time?
Jessica Alba
Faile Aybara Sarah Michelle Gellar - 13.3%
Neve Campbell - 6.0%
Jennifer Love Hewitt - 6.0%

Once again, Sarah wins. There must be a lot of Buffy fans out there, which is a good thing. :) Then again, Faile's character is one that isn't liked much by the general populace (Perrin and Ravriem excepted, of course), so it's important to cast somebody who's used to this.
Sarah Michelle Gellar

She played bad girl Kendall Hart in 'All My Children' and uber-bitch Kathryn Merteuil in 'Cruel Intentions', so I think she likes to play around with her own image. Of course, as Buffy Summers, we're all aware of the fierceness and passion she brings to her work, and that fits well with Faile's personality.
Sarah Michelle Gellar
Gawyn Trakand Matt Damon - 13.3%
Brad Renfro - 12.0%
Leo DiCaprio - 10.8%

Well, you know DiCaprio isn't going to get it. :) There's a long list of young actors that got votes for this role, but come on, Tom Hanks? I can't believe that was a serious vote. I hope so, at least.
Devon Sawa

I've had him in mind for a while now, and I think he's going to become a big star. His self-effacing, physically comedic turns in 'Idle Hands' and 'Final Destination' only hint at his charisma and skills. As Gawyn, I can certainly see him harbouring a secret crush on Egwene while deferring to his brother. I can also see the transformation to a harder, more bitter Gawyn, too.
Devon Sawa
