John Malkovich - 17.8%
Christopher Walken - 15.1%
Jack Nicholson - 6.8%
This role attracted votes for all sorts of actors, from the outrageous (Marilyn Manson, Mike Myers) to the dead-on (John Lithgow, Harvey Keitel). The three top vote-getters certainly have long histories as memorable villains, but there's one in particular that can send chills down your spine... |
John Malkovich
When he's on his game, Malkovich can make you believe he's evil incarnate. It's not just the tinge of insanity, but the cold, calculating look he gets in his eyes.

| Lanfear |
Catherine Zeta-Jones - 44.9%
Elizabeth Hurley - 8.5%
Salma Hayek - 4.2%
I never expected such a remarkable consensus with Lanfear. I mean, we're talking about the 'most beautiful woman ever'. 40 different actresses received at least one vote, but Zeta-Jones ruled the day.
|
Catherine Zeta-Jones
It would be difficult to go against such a consensus, and I find myself agreeing with the popular vote and Michael Douglas; Catherine is the hottest of the hot. She could make any man step back and catch his breath. |
 |
| Aginor |
Michael Wincott - 12.1%
Anthony Hopkins - 9.1%
Paul Newman - 9.1%
I'm trying to remember if Paul Newman has ever played a villain. If you know if he has, let me know. Otherwise, that seems like such a strange pick. |
John Lithgow
See, Aginor's role is basically a cameo performance, and John Lithgow is best taken in small doses, so I figure this is a good match. |
 |
| Graendal |
Salma Hayek - 18.1%
Drew Barrymore - 12.5%
Madonna - 4.2%
The curvaceous Mexican beauty wins by a fair margin, although this was another role where a lot of different actresses got nominated, including two porn stars and Britney Spears (who has a porn star name). |
Angelina Jolie
Here we need somebody who is a very sexual person, a woman who contains ambiguity and danger. Angelina Jolie is an actress who likes to have an air of sexual mystery about her, but her acting abilities have never been in question. |
 |
| Balthamel |
Steve Buscemi - 29.2%
John Malkovich - 8.3%
This was a no-brainer for a lot of people, as they tapped Steve Buscemi to play a lecherous, ugly lunatic. Malkovich's name is no surprise either. (Although I wouldn't call either of them 'ugly') |
Steve Buscemi
Like Aginor, this is a very brief cameo role, and I doubt that we'll see Balthamel in his original form at all before the end of the series, so Steve can jet in and shoot his scene in a day. |
 |
| Semirhage |
Rebecca DeMornay - 27.9%
Anjelica Huston - 7.0%
She is best known for her villainous performance in 'The Hand That Rocks The Cradle' as the psychotic babysitter, although I still remember her in 'Risky Business' - she taught Tommy Cruise a thing or two, I'll wager. |
Halle Berry
She opened a lot of eyes with her performance in 'Introducing Dorothy Dandridge', proving that she was more than just another pretty face. I think she can give Semirhage the right air of injured dignity.

Alec Baldwin - 21.3%
Pierce Brosnan - 14.8%
George Clooney - 4.9%
It's curious how Pierce Brosnan has gotten several votes for bad guy characters. Do people want to see him as a villain? Now, since I've already cast Mark Wahlberg as Aram, I have to find something for Clooney, but this isn't it. |
Alec Baldwin
He's still the best choice for this role. Alec has the looks, but even more important, he's got that voice that makes women melt into their shoes. He might not need to use Compulsion at all. :) |
 |
| Moghedien |
Julianne Moore - 12.5%
Angelina Jolie - 6.2%
Reese Witherspoon - 4.2%
This is a bit of an odd role to cast, because the Spider is someone who tries not to stand out, to remain hidden in the shadows, waiting to strike. The thing is, you could cast almost anyone for this and not be horribly wrong. |
Courteney Cox-Arquette
I went with Courteney here because she has this brittle quality to her, like she's about to shatter into pieces. Moghedien's always looking over her shoulder, and that makes her an edgy, wired person, just like Cox. |
 |
| Sammael |
Sean Bean - 14.7%
Kenneth Branagh - 13.1%
Val Kilmer - 8.2%
This was a pretty close race, with Sean Bean nudging ahead by less than two percent of the vote. There was also a fair share of haed-scratchers in this list: Dennis Franz? Ted Danson? Dolph Lundgren? |
David Morse
I've liked David Morse for a while now; he's one of those character actors you see in every other movie that always does a great job but never gets the spotlight. For some reason, this makes me think of Sammael, too.

 |
| Mesaana |
Sela Ward - 8.7%
Judy Davis - 8.7%
Christine Lahti - 8.7% (tie)
Great picks here, in particular Judy Davis, who is a relative unknown compared to the other actresses nominated. For the most part, though, voters all had different ideas about who should play the scheming Mesaana. |
Sela Ward
I have a friend named James who is absolutely in love with Sela Ward, and so, as a favor to him, I'm giving her this role. Besides, she would be pretty good, and there isn't a clear favorite here anyway.
|
 |
| Be'lal |
Val Kilmer - 7.1%
Viggo Mortenson - 7.1%
Anthony Hopkins - 7.1% (tie)
This was another category where the vote was spread out pretty evenly with no obvious winner. Then again, we don't see much of Be'lal, so it doesn't much matter who gets cast here. |
Richard Hatch
Just because it would be nice to see this machiavellian Survivor winner get balefired, especially since I lost twenty bucks betting on Rudy. :) |
 |
| Asmodean |
Alan Rickman - 15.1%
Kevin Spacey - 5.7%
Colin Firth - 5.7%
The funniest vote was for Deuce Bigalow himself, Rob Schneider. Alan Rickman is a logical choice, combining a weary resignation with a knowing cynicism, but I want to think a little more outside the box here. |
Sting
If any of you saw David Lynch's 'Dune' movie, then you'll remember Sting's portrayal of Feyd-Rautha. It's that level of charisma and energy that convinces me that Sting would be good for Asmodean. It also helps that he can sing pretty good, too. :)

 |
| Demandred |
Ralph Fiennes - 23.9%
David Duchovny - 8.7%
Gabriel Byrne - 8.7%
My pick from the previous cast list wins by a healthy margin, but since I already cast Fiennes somewhere else, I have to pick someone else. :) There were some good nominations, but, honestly, Steven Seagal? |
Russell Crowe
Demandred looks like he will be one of the most formidable of Rand's opponents, so you'll need an actor who can give you a great villain. Russell Crowe has that whole rough-hewn, intense, no-holds-barred thing going for him, plus that laser-like stare. He'd be real good. |
