Into The Woods and Blades, p. 545-567, A Crown of Swords
After tasting ta'veren success with the Sea Folk, Rand takes Min to the rebel camp outside Cairhien, where they meet Caraline Damodred and High Lord Darlin. Rand weaves a little more ta'veren magic with Caraline, then talks to Darlin about his situation. Arriving at the rebel camp, Rand and Min discover the rebels have guests: Cadsuane and her companions, four Red sisters, and Lord Toram Riatin with his lackey, Padan Fain. Toram challenges Rand to a duel, but a strange fog interrupts their battle, and all hell breaks loose. In the confusion, Padan Fain emerges from the mist to slice Rand right on his old scar, and his chances for survival are slim before Cadsuane takes charge.
This scene is constructed so beautifully, as Jordan reminds us how the Pattern balances the good with the evil. Rand gains potential allies in Caraline and Darlin, but nearly loses his life thanks to Fain. And right at the center: Cadsuane, a force of nature all her own. We've got a fight sequence, a suspenseful flight through the fog, and a woman that resembles Moiraine just enough to remind us why we miss her. I end the script with them emerging from the fog and Rand's life still in doubt because that's the natural commercial break. (Cliffhangers, gotta love 'em)
