Okay, so the last time I did this, I was consistent, at least in terms of being way off the mark. Yes, I provided you all with a great deal to laugh about, and I've been swamped with requests to do the same for 'Winter's Heart'. Out of the goodness of my heart (and the opportunity to make up for the previous disaster), here we go again with a new Predictions page. Now that I've finished 'Winter's Heart', after each prediction is an analysis of where I went wrong (or right, as the case may be). Therefore, this page is full of SPOILERS! Be forewarned, gentle reader!

  • Mat will find himself on a ship to Tremalking, thanks to his special ring, on his way to meet the High Lady Suroth. By the time he gets there, though, he finds that the entire Seanchan court has already arrived to check out the progress of the invasion. Guess who he meets?

Well, he did end up meeting the Daughter of the Nine Moons, but she sailed straight to Ebou Dar, where Suroth was already firmly ensconced in the Tarasin Palace. His ring was a source of curiosity for the DotNM, but she seemed more interested in his spear, and of course, with her abduction, they'll have plenty of time to fall in love.

  • With the recent discovery of the hidden properties of the Oath Rod, Elaida seizes upon the idea to test every sister in the White Tower. Of course, that's when Egwene's army shows up on the doorstep, but not before Elaida discovers that Alviarin is playing for the wrong team. Before Egwene's army can begin their assault, the battle inside the White Tower begins, as the Black Ajah attempt a coup. Egwene saves Elaida and the Tower, but not before much bloodshed.

We didn't see much of Egwene's army, so we can probably expect her to be the focus of the next book, but it's also clear that the Oath Rod sisters aren't going to tip their hand to Elaida right away. They will likely attempt to test as many Sitters as possible, but if I were Alviarin, I'd be sweating bullets.

  • Elayne attempts to rally support behind her claim to the throne, but as everyone suspects her to be Rand's puppet, she has to make some bold pronouncements, including banning Rand from the palace. This makes him wonder whether her motives are personal as well as strategic.

Well, this is kind of true, although as we saw, Rand and Elayne are getting along quite well now. ;) I did underestimate Elayne's precarious position, though, and it'll be interesting to see where Daved Hanlon comes in.

  • To save Faile and the others from the Shaido, Perrin is going to need some help. Given that the dust jacket of 'Path of Daggers' suggests that he will have to risk his soul to save Faile, I'm still sticking with the idea that he's going to enter the Tower of Ghenjei, and that he's going to need Thom to get him in there. Elyas might also know how to enter it, but we've got that vision of Thom pulling Moiraine's stone out of a fire, so...

I'd like to say that I'm right or wrong here, but this is still up in the air. Given that Mat and his crew are probably going to head towards Perrin's crew, there is the possibility of them hooking up and fulfilling the rest of my prediction. Okay, it's a slim possibility, but I'm clinging to that tuft of grass as long as I can. :)

  • Last time, I predicted that Min was pregnant, but since then, I've decided that having any of Rand's girls pregnant would probably clutter up the narrative at this point, so Jordan will let this one slide for now. No pregnancies for anybody.

Oh, man. Oh, wow, was I off on this. *sigh* How could I think that Jordan would stay away from any plot development that would clutter up the narrative? Was I smoking crack that day, or what?

  • Dashiva is Osan'gar.

    Slam dunk, baby!

  • Taim is not Demandred.

    He shoots, he scores!

  • Demandred is the mastermind behind the Seanchan invasion. He is not a character that we've met yet.

I don't know whether I could call this either way. There's an excellent theory out there that claims Semirhage is Tuon's truth-speaker, Anath, since Anath was newly appointed to the position by the Empress herself, and we all know by now to be suspicious of anyone in power who just showed up out of nowhere. :) I still think we haven't met Demandred's alter ego yet.

  • Mesaana is a scullery maid in the White Tower.

    Undecided.

  • Verin is not Black Ajah. Neither is Sheriam. The latter's problem is that she's being blackmailed, and for a while now. She took care of that assassin in the White Tower, remember?

This is still an open question, although Verin's behaviour with Cadsuane makes you wonder what the Brown Ajah was about to do. Was she going to poison Cadsuane, or give her some forkroot so she could weave that Compulsion thingy on her?

  • Cadsuane's lesson involves linking with women - it's a hard lesson because the male has to give the woman total control.

I think it's safe to say that I'm quite wrong about this one, since Nynaeve linked with Rand pretty easily, and the Asha'man Warders were also controlled by the female circles, too.

  • Cyndane is Lanfear reborn, Moridin is Ishamael reborn, but Olver is not Gaidal Cain reborn.

Cyndane is Lanfear, Moridin is almost without a doubt Ishamael reborn, but we don't know about Olver. I just think Olver is too old to be Gaidal Cain. He would have been at least four or five years old when the Heroes were called at Falme, so how could Cain's soul end up in Olver's body?

  • If I were Chief Inquisitor Asunawa, I'd want eyes in the back of my head.

Actually, this is a moot point, unless he's with the group of Whitecloaks between Perrin's army and the Shaido.

  • Logain... He's bonding female channelers, but to what purpose? Under whose orders? What side is he on? My guess is that he will someday replace Taim as Rand's right-hand man, but I can't imagine the circumstances.

It's pretty obvious that the Black Tower is being split into two factions, one following Taim, and the other following Logain. Since we know Taim wanted Rand dead, Logain is the one to root for, but who taught him how to bond with a kiss?

  • Well, while Dashiva/Osan'gar was all for killing Rand, Taim was the one who orchestrated the assassination attempt. But Taim's idea was to scare Rand, not kill him. Dashiva/Osan'gar decided to take the opportunity, and failed only because his timing was off. Why would Taim want to scare Rand? Well, I guess we'll find out in 'Winter's Heart', because I have no idea. :)

I still haven't figured out why Taim wanted to kill Rand. I mean, sure, he's an ambitious bastard, probably a Darkfriend, but the assassination attempt was such a half-assed job that it made me wonder if it was all Homer Simpson's idea.

This page will probably be updated when the next book is close to publication. Or unless I get some really good ideas. You never know, it could happen. :)
